Tutors visit Mayo High School

On March 27, three of our writing tutors (Ellen Beach, Kasi Gedris, and Amanda Naron), visited a twelfth grade English class at Mayo High School, as part of the QEP high school partnership initiative. The writing tutors talked about college writing and common student errors, they conducted a mock-tutoring session for the students, and then led a tutoring session with a high school student volunteer. Finally, they facilitated small group tutoring sessions. The students were excited to receive tutor comments about their papers.

The visit was productive for both high school students and tutors. The tutors did a wonderful job interacting with high school students and engaging them in a discussion about writing.

SPRING 2009

More students have been coming to the Writer's Studio to collaborate on their writing than ever before. In response, we are pleased to extend our hours. The Writer's Studio is now open from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We also have a new group of writing tutors who are looking forward to working with you on your writing. Please stop by and see us.

Another exciting year

The year has barely begun, and the Writer's Studio is already abuzz with people of all writing abilities stopping by to share their efforts and improve their writing and thinking. We're settling well into our new digs on the second floor of the Charles W. and Joan S. Coker Library and Information Technology Center (LITC for short) and hope you'll stop by!
